Dear Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the Eighth MERCURY Conference for Undergraduate Computational Chemistry. The Conference will be held August 2nd-4th, 2009, at Hamilton College, in Clinton, NY. The conference will feature plenary lectures by Rommie Amaro, University of California, San Diego; Tom Cheatham, University of Utah; Eric Deumens, University of Florida; Roald Hoffman, Cornell University; Neysa Nevins, Glaxo Smith Kline; and Lyudmila Slipchenko, Purdue University. In addition mainstays of the conference include an Undergraduate Poster Session and evening social sessions. This conference is an excellent forum for undergraduates to present their work and to learn from experts in the field, allowing them to put their own research into perspective. It is equally valuable as a network for faculty working with undergraduates. Undergraduates from all types of institutions are invited to come present their work.

Conference Fees are $225 for faculty, postdocs, and graduate students, $120 per faculty guest, and $115 for undergraduates, and include registration, housing, and meals. The conference registration deadline is July 21. Details of the conference and information on registration and submission of Abstracts can be found on our web site: http://mercury.chem.hamilton.edu/modules/content/index.php?id=55

MERCURY Conference

We are pleased to announce the fifth national conference devoted solely to undergraduate computational chemistry, to be held at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, from July 26 - July 28, 2006. This conference is a great opportunity for undergraduates to learn about the breadth of research in computational chemistry, particularly in interdisciplinary topics, and to discuss their work with other undergraduate computational chemists as well as some leaders in the field. For faculty, this conference will be an opportunity to generate a network of computational chemists at undergraduate institutions, fostering collaboration and developing a sense of community in the field. Since the formation of MERCURY Maria Gomez has moved from Vassar College to Mt. Holyoke College. This summer Carol Parish is moving from Hobart and William Smith Colleges to Richmond University. They remain members of MERCURY along with Marc Zimmer of Connecticut College and George Shields. Four of our original members have left the consortium and we have added Maria Nagan of Truman State University, Kirksville, MO, Tricia Shepherd of Westminster College, Salt Lake City, Utah, Glenisson de Oliveira of Rhode Island College, and Wingfield Glassey of The College of Wooster, Wooster, OH.
